Are you a person who LOVES New Year's Resolutions? I am not one of the people! I find that for me New Year's Resolutions are just one more thing to make me feel guilty about not achieving. One more layer of stress....Shoulda, coulda, woulda...blah blah blah!!
So what can you do if you're like me and don't want to necessarily make New Year's Resolutions.... but also want to feel at the end of 2018 that you accomplished something other than the routine of going to work and then coming home to binge watch the latest Netflix hit? One approach is that really spoke to me- focus on "the one thing"....the one thing that will domino and cause other things to happen for you. Think of it as a synergistic approach! I first heard about this on Andy J Miller's "Creative Pep Talk" podcast, episode 163. You can go here to listen or find his podcast on iTunes/Soundcloud as well.
Another approach comes from Michael Hyatt. I recently took one of his webinars about goal setting and planning and you can read more in his book, "Your Best Year Ever". He advocates that we should only have one or two goals to focus on a quarter vs. loading ourselves up with a bunch of goals. This way we can focus on one or 2 goals and put all our efforts into these goals instead of spreading ourselves too thin across too many things.
Lastly, what if we set out to live our lives more intentionally? What if we set an intention to live a more healthy life (for example)? What would that look like? Perhaps it would mean packing our lunch for work instead of eating out every day or walking for 15 minutes at lunch. I love the idea of being more intentional each day instead of then having make "hail Mary" resolutions at the beginning of the year.
I hope looking at resolutions in a new way will help inspire you to kick off 2018 in a fun, and guilt-less way!
With Love,
Jackie
