Who knew that along with the "challenges" the pandemic brought us, that one of them would be cracking the code of how to look good on video?

I reached out to 5 style and fashion friends who are out there, best faces forward, rocking it during the pandemic - all while looking effortlessly pulled together. I had to know how they are doing it and to share their best tips us so we can look and feel great while doing our Zoom calls.

And if you're one of the lucky ones that don't have to hop on a video call, these tips also apply to selfies or having your pic taken. I think we are all being captured more on video and camera due to social distancing.

We have made a handy printable "cheat sheet" of these tips that you can print and have as a reminder.

Julie, Style & Fashion blogger -  “Fashion Trends and Friends”.
“It goes without saying but I always feel better when I'm fixed up - hair done, makeup done and a cute outfit are all musts especially if the other participants are used to seeing this version of you!”

"Lighting is critical!  It is best not to have bright light behind you."

"Position the camera so that it is eye to eye with you.  If it's too high, it will distort you.  If it's too low, they could be looking up your nostrils...not a good look!”

“If you're using the Zoom desktop app, there's a touch up my appearance option.  It doesn't give you a facelift but it does smooth out some skin imperfections and hey, every little bit helps!”

Jessica Loren- Virtual Makeup Consultant
I’ve been doing videos for more than two years and trust me, I’ve watched them on replay and definitely have learned through trial and error...my number one tip for zoom videos is to be prepared to wear a little more makeup than you typically would. They say the camera washes out about 20-30 percent of your makeup. Also, false lashes are your best friend on camera...do you don’t have to go bold! They make conservative lashes that are absolutely gorgeous! And my last tip is to put lipstick on...it makes a world of difference on video!"

"I’m a firm believer that if you look & feel good, you automatically have an air of
confidence going into the zoom call.”

“One more thing I’ve learned...avoid wearing black. It tends to interfere with the camera’s lighting sensor and may cause a ‘washed out’ look!”

Melanie Rae Miller- Outfitting and Style Inspiration.
Melanie says it’s all about the waist up! “I think it’s about balance and scale! If you wear a simple button-up, pop the collar and throw on a big statement necklace! If it’s a big pattern or print, keep your earring solid and let the print be your accessory! I’m a master of emulating others so find a look you love and make it yours! And, just fix the front of your hair, save the styling product from the back for another time! Push yourself out of your comfort zone and be bold in your style! But your best accessory is your smile so put on a great lip and smile away!
Style is a state of mind!”

Brooke Kersten - Style and Inspiration.
“Wear lipstick/lipgloss and have your BEST SMILE ON at ALL times. You will have confidence in yourself and you will be able to put your best foot forward even if it is somewhat uncomfortable to do things virtually. This is something that has helped me to feel confident in myself when doing the Zoom thing on a regular basis"
